What is BPM?
BPM (beats per minute) is a song's tempo. Hip-hop usually sits around 80 to 100 BPM, pop around 100 to 130, house near 124 and drum and bass around 170. Knowing your tempo helps you pick samples, plan DJ sets and pitch the right playlists.
How the BPM finder works
- Choose an MP3, WAV or M4A file.
- We detect the beat hits in the audio and measure the time between them.
- You get the tempo and key, measured from your audio and never guessed.
Using BPM to pitch playlists
Curators group songs by energy: workout, chill, party, focus. Matching your tempo to a playlist's mood is one of the easiest ways to raise your acceptance rate. After finding your BPM, run the free Song Analyzer to see which playlists your song fits.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the BPM of a song?
Choose your song file. The BPM finder listens for the beat hits in the audio and counts how many land per minute. It takes a few seconds and runs on your device.
Is this BPM finder free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit. Your audio is never uploaded.
Why does my song show half or double the tempo?
Slow songs with busy hi-hats, or fast songs with a half-time feel, can read at 2x or 0.5x. If 70 looks wrong, your song is probably 140.
Does it also find the key?
Yes. Every result also shows the musical key and its Camelot code for DJ mixing.
Why does BPM matter for playlists?
Many Spotify playlists are built around energy and tempo. Knowing your BPM helps you pitch to playlists your song actually fits.
